Lovebox Alternative With No Hardware: Doodles on Your Partner's iPhone

By the Twoodle team · November 2026

Disclosure: we make Twoodle, so we're biased. We've tried to stick to facts and to say plainly where Lovebox is the better choice.

Lovebox is a charming little wooden box that spins a heart when your person sends you something. It's a lovely idea.

It's also a box. You have to buy it, ship it, and find a spot for it on a nightstand that is already hosting a phone charger, a half-dead plant, and three water glasses.

If you're here, you're probably wondering whether you can get the same warm feeling without the hardware. Maybe. Here's the honest version, including the parts where Lovebox wins.

First, what Lovebox actually is

A small wooden box with a screen and a heart on the side. You send messages, photos, drawings or stickers from the free Lovebox app, and the heart spins when something arrives. Whoever owns the box opens the lid to read it. The box is a physical product you buy, and it connects to the app over Wi-Fi.

Why people go looking for an alternative

  • They don't want to buy and ship a device.
  • They'd rather see messages on the phone they already check all day.
  • They want something that works today, with nothing to set up but an app.

The no-box option: a widget on your partner's iPhone

Twoodle skips the box. You draw on a photo or a blank canvas, hit send, and it fades onto your partner's Home Screen widget.

You can also send short notes to their Lock Screen or Home Screen, share a mood, count your days together, and draw on a shared canvas at the same time. The same warm "someone is thinking about me" feeling, minus the cardboard shipping box.

When Lovebox is the better pick

We'll say it so you don't have to go looking for it:

  • You want a real object. A box on a desk or nightstand, or a gift to unwrap, feels like something. A widget is, well, a widget.
  • Your partner is on Android. Twoodle doesn't have an Android app right now. Lovebox does.
  • You like the ritual. Opening a lid to read a note is a nicer moment than glancing at a phone. We can't argue with that.

When Twoodle is the better pick

  • You both have iPhones and want nothing extra to buy or ship.
  • You want drawings to show up on the screen you already look at constantly.
  • You like the idea of drawing together live, or of a Lock Screen counter for your days together.

Free to download. One Twoodle Pro subscription covers both of you.

P.S. If you do end up with a Lovebox, great. Seriously. The point is that someone is thinking of someone. Twoodle is just the version that doesn't need counter space.
